'Take Action – Risk management needs mature auditing' in November 2009 CQI "QW Express"

Quality Management tools should be taking a central role within any organisation's Risk Management structure. BUT this will only happen once the application of these tools matures beyond the level at which they have traditionally been used. Two tools in particular are important in this area:-

Preventive Action is really only a way of applying risk management principles. It allows areas of potential risk to be identified and managed, with the aim of creating consistent delivery of whatever you are trying to achieve.

Auditing, when done effectively, should help in identifying where these risk areas are within the organisation. It should also help to identify the likelihood of things happening, a part of Risk management that is poorly practiced at the moment.

Putting mature methods to work in these two areas will make them essential parts of any organisation's Risk Management structure - helping to move Quality into mainstream business sustainability management.
