'Take Action – Make ISO9004 a boardroom issue' in December 2009 CQI "QW Express"

Now that the 2009 update of ISO9004 has been around for a few weeks, we should all be in a position to assess what it means for our respective organisations. However, far too few people, even Quality professionals, really look at it in any depth or fully understand what it is telling us. Not surprisingly, this means it is too often ignored and concentration is placed on ISO9001 in isolation.

ISO9004 provides significant direction and guidance to help us all devleop and mature our management systems to deliver far greater value that just 'Quality' in its traditional sense. Gaining a full understanding of ISO90004 and its relationship with ISO9001 and all other management systems is critical for providing the foundations for Business Sustainability - the key requirement for all organisations in this coming decade.

Quality Professionals need to be up to the challenge of driving this maturity, or face the inevitable consequences of being further sidelined in the management of their organisations. Even worse, their organisations will lose a great opportunity to become truly sustainable.
